An Introduction to the brand

Kirkland is unique in that they make food for all stages of your canine’s life. Start with the puppy diet before moving to adult flavors, food for the mature canine , and diet for a healthy weight. They even have diets perfect for small breeds! All of these are designed with nutritional needs for each life stage in mind, enhanced with probiotics, proper proteins, and fats for digestive health. Fresh meats like chicken and lamb are thrown into the mix too, along with healthy vegetables and rice. These types of ingredients are perfect for a developing dog, or for your old guy or gal who’d rather just rest with you.

Who Makes Kirkland Canine Food?

This is a natural brand with multiple ingredients and varieties. Their diets are even grain free for canines with digestive issues. So where is it made? To the relief of many buyers, it’s made right in the United States in four different cities by Diamond. This means that it’ll ship well and in bulk, and will be made fresh just for your pup! On top of that, the company is family owned and privately held, and the food is easy enough to pick up at your nearest Costco.

Grain Free Canine Diet

I was really happy to know that they made grain free diet. Since I know how important it is to cater to our canine’s digestive issues, I figured it’d be best to focus on one of the popular grain free varieties. Not only is this diet grain free, but it’s also made with salmon meal and sweet potato formula. Thanks to its ingredients, it works great for all stages of a dog’s life, so no more thinking about puppy vs. adult.

Ingredients

Also known as “Nature’s Domain,” they makes diets with a variety of ingredients. In the specific food I’m looking at, they use salmon meal and sweet potatoes for their main ingredients, giving your canine healthy meat mixed with delicious vegetables. It has 24% protein with lots of omega 3s, fatty acids, and probiotics. There are no vitamin K supplements like some brands either. If your pet doesn’t love the sweet potato in their diet though, switch flavors! There are bags with Chicken and Peas, Turkey Meal, and Beef Meal too. It’s easy to find all sorts of flavors to mix things up!

Kirkland Canine Food Recall

One of the largest concerns most buyers have is about the diet recalls that have been done by Kirkland. In 2007 and 2012 there were large-scale recalls, and in 2012, some dogs became sick from Salmonella. Some people do say that they find the new quality of ingredients more greasy. Some people might worry about the recall in 2012, although it’s no doubt still a top choice for a large amount of breeders thanks to its ingredients.

The ingredients are all natural and healthy with no corn, wheat, or soy. Essentially, Kirkland is premium canine food at a lower cost. There’s no animal digest or by-products, and additionally, no artificial ingredients, sweeteners or colorings, no matter which flavor you end up buying. The only ingredient that may be questionable is brewers dried yeast, which is left over yeast.

What Customers Say

Customers have outstanding things to say about the brand, which only makes sense when you consider how natural and delicious it is. Jenny spoke about how her poor pet has a pancreas condition that makes it difficult to produce the enzymes needed for digestion, so he couldn’t eat anything. This was the only diet her pet could eat. The grain free quality was for her, like it is for so many owners. On top of that, many people commented on the beautiful, sleek coat that their pet had only a short while after starting this diet.

On the other hand, there are always concerns. The biggest concern by most people however is the change in quality. Wendy said how her canines used to absolutely love this food. They couldn’t get enough, but all of a sudden they wouldn’t eat it. They started getting gas and diarrhea. The quality is the can be inconsistent and some people suspect a change in ingredients.

Conclusion

I don’t know about you, but I always end up debating canine diets like I’m debating a new job! It seems like an impossible decision when there are so many, but it doesn’t have to be all that tough with a brand like Kirkland dog food out there. All natural, delicious, and with a variety of flavors, this brand might solve all your pet’s problems from puppy to adult!
