I’m finally getting down to reviewing the Surefeed Pet Feeder for you guys after being asked quite a lot. Read my full guide about automatic pet feeder.
The SureFlap Brand
Don’t you wish that your pets had their own house keys that would enable them, and them alone, to enter through your pet door instead of attracting unwarranted animals from the neighborhood into your house? This was the gist of the problem that led to the creation of the revolutionary SureFlap brand. Launched in 2008, their patented design uses a registered pet’s microchip to unlock the electronic pet doors and feeders. With their award-winning products, pet owners can be assured that only their pets can access their homes and food. SureFlap is dedicated to solving problems with great design and clever thinking and do not put design after functionality and their products are created to be both efficient while being stylish as the same time to fit in the homes of their customers. One of my favorite products from them would be the SureFeed pet feeder.
The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder Review
If your pet is on a strict diet (or has the annoying habit of stealing your other pets’ food!), then the Surefeed Microchip Pet Feeder would be a good fit for your household. Using SureFlap’s patented design, this feeder is designed to unlock only for registered pets. I really liked it as that functionality alone really helps you to manage if you have a greedier/faster pet who always manages to get the bulk of the food while your other poor pets have to go hungry. That also puts an end to having to take the hassle to separate your pets or put them in different rooms when feeding.
Features
For owners of multiples pets, feeding time can be quite a harrowing experience, especially if your pets have different diets, are taking prescription medication, and/or are trying to steal each other’s food. With the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder, you can bid those woes goodbye. Because it is designed to open only for a registered pet, your pets would not have access to food in feeders that are not meant for them.
This feeder is compatible with worldwide pet microchips as well as the SureFlap RFID collar tags. There is even one collar tag included in the package when you avail of one feeder.
The SureFeed Microchip Pet feeder can contain both wet a dry food. For dry food, it can hold about 2-2.5 cups, and for wet food, about 2 pouches can fit into the feeder. Because the food is sealed whenever your pet’s microchip is away from the feeder, this ensures that your pet’s food remains fresh and free of flies.
While the packaging includes 1 grey bowl, 1 grey split bow, and 1 grey mat, you can also purchase colorful mats and bowls separately. You can color coordinate your pets’ feeders so you don’t get confused whose feeder is which.
This feeder has up to 6 months of battery life, and it remembers all registered pets even after the batteries are removed. You can register up to 32 pets for one feeder. The product also has a 3-year warranty in case of problems.
In short, the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder has the following features:
- Compatible with SureFlap RFID collar tags and microchips worldwide
- 1 Sureflap RFID collar tag included in package
- Great for both wet and dry food
- Sealed design for keeping the food fresh and other pets/animals away from your pet’s food

- Other colors of bowls and mats available for separate purchase
- 6 month-battery life (4C batteries not included in the package)

- 3-year warranty
How it Works
First, you can permanently register your pet’s microchip with a touch of a button. After that, the feeder will automatically open whenever your registered pet approaches the feeder and stands under the microchip reader’s arch. In the case when your pet is not microchipped, SureFlap also sells RFID collar tags that your pets can wear which function in a similar way as the microchips.
No more food-stealing because unregistered pets cannot access the food inside as long as their microchips are not stored by the feeder.
It also has a training mode to help your pets gradually get used to the feeder at their own pace.
Why It’s So Popular:
– You can be sure that your pets are eating food that’s meant for them
– No more food stealing
– You can control your pet’s diet and make sure that only they can access the food
– Can store up to 32 pet data
– RFID collars are available if your pets aren’t microchipped
– Other available colors of mats and bowls if you want to color-coordinate your pets’ feeders
Keep In Mind:
– Larger animal’s height may be a problem if they can’t fit under the arch that scans microchips
– Capacity may not be enough for multiple pets with access to the same feeder
– Unregistered pets can still eat from the feeder as long as the registered pets are under the microchip reading arch
– Short life-span, then malfunctions
Best For
All in all, this product is great if your pets are on strict diets that require them to eat different amounts or kinds of food from your other pets. Because the product is designed to open only for registered pets, you can be sure that they are eating what is meant for them and that other pets won’t try to eat their food.
General Customer Impression of SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder
A lot of customers who have bought the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder have great experiences with it. Their pets can now eat without having to worry about other pets stealing their food, and their pets which are on a diet stay so. They say that the product’s not only genius, but works and lives up to expectations. However, some customers also complained about the product’s limitations, like the fact that smart pets can get through the sensor by eating from the sides and/or over the registered pet while they are feeding, as well as the fact that it malfunctions and/or stops working in a short period of time.
John considers this a great product. One of their two cats likes to eat all the food for their other pets as well as a dog that likes to eat the cat’s food. They bought a SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder to make sure that their other cat has food for itself. And it worked! They only had to modify the sides of the feeder so that the other pets cannot inch their way into eating the cat’s food while it’s feeding.

L.B. also considers this product as genius and is happy that it works for one of his cats that prefers to graze food while the other one likes to keep eating. His cat warmed up immediately to the feeder and was already using it within a day. The registration process is quick and easy as well. He mentions that because his cat likes to look around while eating, this causes the feeder to close and the cat has to walk away then return for it to open again. L.B. also suggests that this product have a power adaptor to charge it, especially for users like him who plan to use it daily.
Niki also likes the product and believes that it would work for her if only her cats aren’t as determined as they are. This is because they find ways to eat the food while the registered cat is eating by climbing over him.
Conclusion
With a lot of stellar reviews, the SureFeed Microchip Feeder is a revolutionary and state of the art product from the SureFlap brand. It solves a lot of pet owners’ feeding problems and changes the way that pets can be fed. While it still has some issues and areas that it could improve it, there is no denying that this is one effective and genius invention.
